Frequently asked questions

Taking the first step toward mental health care or substance use recovery can bring many questions. At AnnaGrace Center for Behavioral Health, we are dedicated to providing clear, transparent, and compassionate guidance every step of the way.

Everything you need to know

Find clear answers to common inquiries regarding appointments, confidentiality, therapy modalities, and payment options.

Will I be judged for what I am going through?

No. We understand that many people worry about judgment regarding mental health challenges, substance use, past decisions, or relapse. At AnnaGrace Center, we provide a warm, respectful, culturally responsive, and judgment-free space where you can share openly and feel heard.

Will what I share in counseling remain confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is paramount. What you share with your therapist is protected by legal and ethical confidentiality standards. During your first session, we thoroughly explain privacy policies as well as the standard legal exceptions where disclosure may be required by law.

What should I expect during my first intake appointment?

Your initial session is a collaborative conversation to understand what brings you to counseling. Your therapist will discuss your current symptoms, personal history, relationships, strengths, and goals. For substance use counseling, we also discuss recovery history, triggers, and support systems to begin crafting an individualized care plan.

How should I prepare for my first session?

There is no complex preparation required. We simply encourage you to arrive open-minded and ready to share at your own pace. If you plan to use insurance, having your insurance card and any relevant medical or treatment records handy can be helpful.

Do you offer in-person visits, telehealth, or both?

We offer both in-person sessions at our Washington, DC office and secure telehealth appointments. Telehealth lets eligible clients attend therapy from the privacy of their home, depending on clinical appropriateness and licensing regulations.

How do you handle insurance and self-pay options?

We accept select insurance plans and provide self-pay options for clients without insurance or those choosing not to use it. Because coverage varies, we recommend contacting us and checking with your insurer to verify copays, deductibles, and behavioral health benefits prior to your visit.

What therapeutic approaches do your clinicians use?

Our therapists utilize evidence-based and client-centered practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT-informed skills, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed therapy, mindfulness, and relapse prevention counseling.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Getting started is simple. You can reach out by phone at [[phonenumber]], email us at [[email]], or submit an appointment request through our website. Our team will gather basic details and help match you with the right provider.
